Stormy weather, Thanks Ernesto!

Tropical Storm Ernesto, as of 11am NYC time

Man, this weather is really starting to get me down. Today was supposed to be the only sunny day of this week and the next and, although it's not raining, it's not sunny either. It's basically a day of gloom and grayness, all thanks to tropical storm Ernesto, a storm that didn't even have the cojones to saddle it up and be a real hurricane but has instead managed to sabotage the weather on the last two weeks of summer. A perfect day for a thousand cocktails? Perhaps, but as it's just passed noon, we here at Pedro's HQ have decided to abstain ... for at least a few hours until such a time as it is arguably cocktail hour. However, in the spirit of full disclosure, a decisive factor in the postponement of said cocktails is that the girlfriend is fighting a nasty cold and has finally started her own cocktail of Robitussin and NyQuil (I passed). So without a partner in crime, yours truly will wait at least until the market closes.

As a result of the lousy weather in recent days, the girlfriend and I have been wasting away the days sleeping, eating and taking walks when the weather permits. We managed to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and have been planning to see Little Miss Sunshine this weekend (at least we were until we saw this from Uncle Grambo) but now the jury is out. Other than that there's not a lot at the theaters today that I can reasonably present to the girlfriend with any hopes of an answer in el affirmativo. Snakes on a Plane? I've been green lighted to go with Team Polizei's Kapitan but he's traveling. Beerfest? Unfortunately, Bullet lives in Budapest so I'd have to see that one alone and I'm not sure that I am willing to sink that low. Talladega Nights? Again, the Girlfriend says 'Nein!'

So it looks like I'm going to be hitting the vino and watching the Mole Man's work while I keep my eyes on the hottness that is Maria Sharapova (and ova and ova!!) out in Flushing Queens. Which, at the end of the day, isn't all bad.

Starry Eyed Surprise

So I got sacked from my job again. I can't believe it. I started at this hedge fund literally the day before the peak of the market (May 8) and got sacked on the day which has proven to be the lowest point of the recent sell off (Aug 2). Talk about crappy timing - seriously, I am almost impressed with my incredibly bad luck. I guess I gotta stop killing those spiders in the apartment... Anyway, the main reason why I got booted is because the biggest investor in the fund pulled out suddenly making paying the rent an issue so costs had to be cut. As the last one in the door, I was the first one shown it again so here I am. So,

By the way, all the market calls I made in the last week I was there have KILLED it. But, obviously that's of no consequence at this point. So, bygones. What's done is done. If any of y'all hear of any great consumer analyst hedge fund opportunities, don't hesitate to call. In fact, more directly, get me on the phone STAT. I gotta get back in the game.

In the meantime, an ad starring this girl and this song (scroll down and listen to song #8, "Starry Eyed Surprise") for this product, entitled "Rollergirl" (scroll to bottom right, "Latest Ads" and then click on "Rollergirl") always makes me feel a little sunnier. How can it not?

So I'm back to the drawing board and hopefully will have more time to chill with you all, my peeps. As Editor in Chief (aka "Guy on the Sofa") of Pedro's NYC, I will try to be more active in the coming days. Hope you are all well! Because as we like to say on the unemployment line, if you haven't got your health, you've got... ahhh, forget it.
